Each spike is designed for simple insertion—remove the cap, drive the spike into the ground around the tree or shrub, then drive it 2 inches below the soil surface. Spikes should be placed at least 3 feet apart. For small trees or shrubs with a drip line closer than two feet, insert spikes two feet away from the center.
